Cookie Pricing Calculator: What To Charge Per Cookie And Per Dozen

Cookie Pricing Calculator: What To Charge Per Cookie And Per Dozen

Most home bakers undercharge for cookies because they forget their time and packaging. Work out a price per cookie and per dozen that actually pays you.

Quick AnswerTo price cookies, add up what one batch costs (ingredients, bags, your time and a little overhead), divide by the number of cookies, then add profit. Dividing your cost per cookie by 0.75 gives you a 25% margin. In our example, a plain batch of 36 comes to about $1.92 a cookie, or $23 a dozen.

๐Ÿ“ How To Use The Cookie Pricing Calculator

  1. Add what one batch costs. Flour, sugar, butter, eggs, chocolate chips or other mix-ins, plus bags, boxes and stickers.
  2. Enter how many cookies it makes.
  3. Enter how long it takes. Mixing, baking, cooling, decorating, packing and cleanup all count.
  4. Read the price per cookie, per dozen and for wholesale, then round it.

๐Ÿงฎ How Cookie Pricing Works

Add your ingredients, packaging, time and a little overhead, divide by the number of cookies, then add profit:

Price = cost per cookie รท (1 โˆ’ the profit margin you want). For a 25% margin, divide by 0.75.

Example: a batch of 36 plain cookies

Cost Amount
Ingredients $14.40
Packaging (36 bags and stickers) $5.40
Your time (2 hours at $15 an hour) $30.00
Overhead $2.00
Total for the batch $51.80
Cost per cookie $1.44
Price at a 25% margin ($51.80 รท 0.75) $69.07 for 36 (about $1.92 each)
Rounded to a friendly price $23 a dozen

These are example numbers, not prices you must charge. Your costs and your hourly rate will be different.

๐ŸŽจ Plain, Decorated And Custom Cookies Cost Different Amounts

Time changes the price most. Take the same 36 cookies. If they are decorated sugar cookies that take 5 hours instead of 2, that adds $45 in time (3 extra hours at $15), before the extra icing and sprinkles. The same 25% margin now makes the batch $129.07, about $3.59 a cookie, or $43 a dozen. That is why a decorated cookie should cost far more than a plain drop cookie.

๐Ÿšซ Cookie Pricing Mistakes

  • Thinking cookies only cost pennies. Ingredients are the small part. Your time is usually the biggest cost.
  • Pricing with cheap ingredients you do not use. If your recipe calls for good butter and chocolate, use those prices in the calculator.
  • Forgetting packaging. Bags, stickers, boxes and ribbon add up fast.
  • Not charging extra for custom or allergy-friendly orders. Special requests take more time and care.
  • Not pricing shipping. Shipped cookies need a sturdy box and padding, and the shipping charge should go to the customer.

๐Ÿ’ก Ways To Sell More Cookies

  • Sell by the half dozen and dozen, with a small discount for the larger box.
  • Offer a build-your-own box so customers pick several flavors.
  • Add seasonal flavors for holidays and gifts.
  • Set a minimum for custom orders, such as one dozen.
  • Round up to a price that is easy to pay and to make change for.
